Curate the plants whose nature aligns with the nature of your home

Houseplants have the unique effect of making a space feel both lively and serene. You can tailor them to your own aesthetic desires while also selecting varieties that will thrive in your unique home environment and lifestyle. They clean the air we breathe, and give life to us on dreary winter days.

Over time, caring for them can become a calming meditative activity; it may prompt you to remember that you can usually feel a world better by drinking a glass of water and getting a little sunshine. Plants can ground you in your space, plants can ground you in your unique needs as a human, and plants can ground you in the present moment. It would be my honor to guide you on a journey to make your home feel grounded by plants.

Does a Gorgeous Houseplant Collection Feel Intimidating?

Does this sound familiar? You bring a mystery plant or “hard to kill succulent” home from the hardware store (with no name or care tag) and it looks lackluster or dead within 6 months.  Dead plants feel like expensive risks or mistakes. You declare: “How embarrassing! I must have a black thumb!” Instead you settle for drooling over plantscaped homes on Instagram.

Don’t sell yourself short, because you were not set up for success in that scenario. The addition of any living thing in your home certainly requires a learning curve. Plants are not inanimate objects like other art, so caring for them properly requires building some horticultural knowledge beyond what most of us learned in 8th grade biology.  Every plant variety has its own needs, including light and water requirements, it may be susceptible to specific pests, could require pruning, rotation, or repotting. Consider me a coach on your journey to become a good plant parent by becoming more grounded in your own home environment.

Light = Life

Understanding light is the most foundational element of plant success. To a plant, light is it’s diet; the food it needs to eat everyday to sustain life. I will visit your home to assess and explain your precise lighting constraints and opportunities. With a clear understanding of your interior environment, I can recommend plants that will thrive under your unique conditions.

With the right selections, I promise it is possible to succeed with plants living in a north facing apartment or a home on a northern slope. A south facing bay window is a death sentence for a maidenhair fern, but a happy place for succulents galore. You cannot change a plant’s nature, but you can curate plants whose nature aligns with the nature of your home.

How Will We Work Together?

Curated Plantscaping

I work directly with local wholesalers, meaning I have a huge and enduring selection of plants with access to mature specimens and rare varieties. I will personally pick out the most beautiful specimens that meet my client’s space and lighting constraints. I will also select containers and pots to enhance your own unique aesthetic. Your plants will be delivered to your home potted and immediately ready for display.

A Custom Care Guide

You (and your plants) won’t be left in the dark after delivery. Your personal collection of plants will come with a custom care guide. Your personalized Grounded Guide will cover the lighting needs, watering requirements, common pests, and more. It will also include photos of your exact plant, along with the scientific and common name of each. Check out this sample Grounded Guide to see how I customize the care of your plants to fit the nature of your home.

A Safe, Inclusive, and Trusted Partner in Your Home

In my home, I have a collection of about 120 plants that is always fluctuating. I have managed the plant care and display in a 5,000 square foot retail greenhouse for tens of thousands of plants with hundreds of rotating varieties. Today, I have a passion for bringing my extensive plant experience to your home. As you consider welcoming me into your home, also consider:

  • I strictly adhere to CDC Guidelines for Covid-19 and I will always wear a N95 mask in your home, for the protection of myself and all of my clients’ families. I kindly ask all my clients to wear a face covering while I am in your home working with you during design sessions or upkeep training.

  • I strive to operate an environmentally conscious business. I clean and recycle plastic nursery pots with a local partner and avoid using harsh chemicals to control pests.

  • I hold a sales tax license in the State of Colorado, and my business is properly insured by State Farm.

  • I consider myself anti-racist, LGBTQ inclusive, and strive for kindness and compassion throughout all aspects of my life.

  • Check out my client testimonials below!

“I have always loved beautiful greenery, but had no idea what I was doing and over the last decade, have probably killed a dozen plants. Aside from the wasted time and money, it made me feel like I wasn’t capable of caring for plants.

Cue Grounded by Plants! Lauren came into our home; assessed our aspects, lighting and available space; and devised a completely custom, bespoke and gorgeous plan. She then sourced, potted and delivered everything. Lauren educated us about our new “family members,” delivered a care manual, and will be coming back periodically to ensure all is growing and adjusting well.

We are so thankful to have these beautiful living beings in our home, and so grateful to Lauren for getting us here!”

Sarah Lehman, Golden, Colorado

“Lauren has taught me so much about plants and plant care.  Her passion for plants combined with her great eye for design and her ability to listen creates a winning combination for designing a custom plantscape.”

Mary Gilkison, Lakewood, Colorado

“Lauren is a wealth of knowledge about plants! I had about 4 houseplants when I first met Lauren but after learning so much about the joys of keeping houseplants, my collection has grown so much! She helped me learn how to pot plants and how to repot plants. She also helped me bring back an heirloom plant from the brink of death, and turn it back into a thing of beauty.

I will be forever grateful to her for helping me have the confidence to care for indoor plants as I now can’t imagine my home without them!”

Emily Post, Lakewood, Colorado
